Yi Peng Lantern Festival

Today brings us to another airport at another gate – on our way to the Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai. After the hurdy-gurdy frenetic pace of our trip to Tokyo at the beginning of the month, we’re looking forward to a slightly slower pace in for a week in Thailand.

Which brings us here, to the Nagoya airport. Tim typically flies here multiple time a month and has been itching to share it with us. And now we know why. It’s a charming airport – everyone seems to have the time to say hello, and the terminal is set up as a village recreation, complete with village stores, restaurants and even an onsen. And the landscape we saw on the way in looks beautiful. We need to come back to enjoy a long weekend here, without rushing off to our next destination.

But for now, we’re about to board a Korean Airlines flight to Seoul, where we have another short layover and then our last flight to Chiang Mai. We’re hoping we have enough time on the layover to sample some tasty Korean food.

It feels like we’ve been dreaming about the Lantern Festival for years and we’ve heard that Chiang Mai is a magical city. We’re so excited about this trip!

Making the pitch that Roxy could come with us…
Duke’s a pro at kaiten sushi ordering!
Mixed berry/cranberry compote?
Words fail me…

    1. I saw some of your photos from your trip! It looks like it was (is?) a fabulous trip with family! I’m glad you got to see everyone! We’ll be making a quick trip back to Denver to see family in a few weeks – those kinds of trips are soul filling in a different way!

  1. Hahaha!! Roxy’s expression looks like she’s making the case for not going in a backpack but that is the cutest that Amelia wanted to bring her dog. And Duke ordering! Oh my! He looks large and in charge indeed and Tim looks proud yet somewhat concerned. The sumo reindeer photo is perfection!

    1. Duke’s a pro at ordering sushi now – he know exactly what kind and how much to order, and how to request it without the wasabi.

      1. a purist! no wasabl! haha
I hope he’s ordering all toro, hamachi and salmon (in other words, the fattiest kinds hehe). Tataki is awesome as well.
