Lyon
Tim and I had about two days between the end of our time in Oxford and meeting up with Amelia and Duke in Marseilles, so we cast around, looking for new places that were close enough that we wouldn’t spend all our time traveling before we had to turn around and leave again. Eventually, we settled on Lyon, a French city that neither of us had been to before. It’s known to be a foodie haven and beautiful. It’s also the birthplace of Antoine Saint-Exupéry, the author of The Little Prince, and other exquisite books about the early(-ish) days of aviation.
We were immediately charmed by the city. We found a hotel right in the middle of the old city, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The light was beautiful on all the old buildings and narrow streets and courtyard. It was an immensely restful (and delicious) few days. We definitely want to come back to explore everything we couldn’t make time for this time around.
