Tokyo!!!!

I am vibrating with excitement. It’s been 991 days since we were last in Japan (not counting layovers). One of our major goals when we moved out to Guam was to travel to Japan as often as we could and that just hasn’t been possible. Up until today. The borders opened to tourists last night at 12:01, and now this morning we’re at the gate, waiting to board our flight to Tokyo.

We’ll only be there a few days, and it’s forecast to be rainy, rainy, rainy. But we’ve got umbrellas and rain jackets and a raft of enthusiasm. We’re planning to visit Disney Sea tomorrow. We’ve heard it’s a phenomenal park. On Thursday we’ll explore the city, visit a Pokémon Center and hopeful eat some delicious food. Friday we’ll head back – just in time for Tim to go to work on Saturday and for the kids’ soccer games.

This has been a long time coming!

…now I need to go brush up on my (extremely limited) Katakana…

  1. To the first of what will be many more! I’m so glad you are there and so excited. I know this will be the beginning of many more trips! Have fun!

  2. how awesome! how did you do that map?! That is so cool. Looks like watercolor and print. And who writes their journal in sepia ink?! Very awesome! (Actually, I bought a little jar of sepia ink at the Dickens Fair before pandemic… )

    1. I don’t know how I missed your comment before, Chini! Sorry! I do most of my journaling in sepia – it feels more approachable somehow. And I’ve been making the maps through a digital collage process – a combination of mapping software and “painting” on my tablet. I love spending time with maps before we travel to a place – it helps me understand a place just a little bit faster once I’m there.
