Senso-Ji and Kappabashi

After a slow morning yesterday, we found ourselves dashing to get to our meet-up with the other families. We were a little overwhelmed by the Senso-Ji Temple. It was astonishingly beautiful, but it was also very crowded. We enjoyed visiting with the other families while we looked at the various food and souvenir stalls at the entrance and watched all the people go by. Tim eventually found the counter to get our goshuin – it was a long line but a beautiful seal. I love seeking the goshuin out, it helps us see the temples from a new perspective and record our memories of the day.

Later we got a chance to explore the Kappabashi area. It’s known as kitchen town for all the kitchen supply stores – everything from kitchen knives to disposable chopsticks, coffee equipment and all sorts of kitchen utensils. We all got really excited about the store with plastic food samples for display cases. Tim took the kids to a nearby playground with some of the other families while I did a little browsing. I’m hoping we can go back sometime – I was particularly looking forward to checking out the coffee store, but it was closed yesterday.

After that, we dashed over to Ginza so the kids could visit an Owl Cafe. They loved it, but I have to say the animal cafe trend still has me puzzled, especially since this particular cafe didn’t actually serve any drinks.

We finished off the day with more kaiten sushi and bed.

Today I got up early for work, and then we’ve got another full itinerary planned for the day. More to come!

  1. that is a stunning main photo of the black and gold! the owls are so cute! what a great photo with amelia’s expression! Duke is adorable with that perfect looking bread! I’m with you on the fact that the so-called owl “cafe” didn’t serve any drinks. hahaha!!!

  2. Thanks, Chini! There are so many rich textures and colors and details at the temples. They just beg to be photographed! I was thinking of you in Kappabashi – I wanted to get something from Union Coffee for you, and was so disappointed when it was closed! The pictures of their store look stunning!
