Amelia’s review of John Muir’s book
Book title: The Story of My Boyhood and Youth
Author: John Muir
I like it because it helps me pay more attention to nature. It helps me see more of the beauty in nature. I liked when John Muir was riding in the boat. He didn’t go with any of his sisters, he just went with two of his brothers and his dad. John knew moving to America was a new part in life. And he knew he was going a new way in life so he could survive.
He got a horse named Jack when the rest of his family arrived in the woods. I liked Jack because he was super funny. One day in winter, Jack was very dirty. And so John Muir decided to give him a bath and they sprayed him with the hose and he got icicles on his belly. I liked that part. John’s dad sold Jack to a man.
John had a dog named Watch. One day Watch got his ear snapped by a snapping turtle. And Watch ran away howling and trying to shake the turtle off. Sometimes John Muir’s cat brought in flying squirrels and other kinds of rodents.
Before John moved to the woods in Wisconsin, he lived in Scotland. He was really excited when he got to go to Wisconsin. He was excited that he would be able to find gold and because he wouldn’t have to do any more schoolwork.
I think you should read the book. It’s really fun and I think you would like it.

Very nice, Amelia. I enjoyed learning some new information about John Muir. I had heard of him and knew a little about him but it was interesting to hear about his childhood. I could just see Watch with a turtle on his ear! Thank you for sharing this.
